Jeon Hyun-hee, Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission, "Entering the Top 20 in the Corruption Perceptions Index by Country"
Inaugural Address of the 7th Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] "The public still does not feel the changes and reforms. To achieve the national goal of entering the top 20 in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) by country, we must make painstaking anti-corruption reform efforts."
Jeon Hyun-hee, who became the 7th Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), said this in her inauguration speech held at the Government Sejong Complex on the 29th. She emphasized that the ACRC must truly become the "national anti-corruption control tower" and complete "corruption reforms" that the public can feel.
Chairperson Jeon evaluated that although the CPI, one of the three major government innovation indicators of the Moon Jae-in administration, has risen for three consecutive years and recorded the highest score ever, it is still insufficient.
She encouraged efforts to continue until the public feels the change, and if necessary, to actively carry out administrative actions and request cooperation among ministries.
Chairperson Jeon said, "In unprecedented crisis situations such as the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), we must shift to a direction of proactively and preemptively responding to corruption prevention and civil rights protection tasks."
She presented key initiatives including ▲ enhancing the status of the ACRC as the national anti-corruption control tower ▲ upgrading corruption prevention and integrity policies with a 10-year outlook ▲ actively preparing response measures for civil rights violations and corrupt acts in a non-face-to-face society ▲ strengthening communication on the ground.
