On the 29th (Korean time), at the final day of the PGA Tour Travelers Championship (total prize money $7.4 million) held at River Highlands TPC in Cromwell, Connecticut (par 70, 6,841 yards), Johnson shot 3-under par to complete a one-stroke comeback victory (19-under par 261). This marks his 21st PGA Tour win, his first in 1 year and 4 months since winning the World Golf Championships (WGC) Mexico Championship in February last year, earning $1,332,000 (1.6 billion KRW) in prize money.
Starting two strokes behind in second place, Johnson recorded six birdies and three bogeys. After consecutive birdies on holes 4 and 5, he took a brief breather with a bogey on hole 7, then reclaimed the top of the leaderboard with back-to-back birdies on holes 8 and 9 and another birdie on hole 10 (all par 4s). The bogey on hole 13 (par 5) was immediately offset by a birdie on hole 14, and on hole 15 (par 4), despite his tee shot landing in the rough in front of a hazard, he rolled up his pants and waded into the water for a 'barefoot shot' to save par.
On the final 18th hole (par 4), trailing by one stroke, he hit a massive 351-yard drive with his driver, effectively sealing the victory. His fairway hit rate was only 50%, and his greens in regulation stood at 66.67%, but his excellent crisis management stood out. Ultimately, his 9-under par round the previous day was the driving force behind his win. Johnson is the epitome of consistency. Since the Turning Stone Resort Championship in 2008, he has won at least once every year, reaching the milestone of 21 career wins.
This marks his 13th consecutive season with a victory, a remarkable record. He has risen to a tie for 30th place in all-time wins alongside Davis Love III (USA) and others. He is known as the 'Man of the WGC Series.' He has won four different tournaments in the series: the 2013 HSBC Champions, the 2015 Mexico Championship, the 2016 Bridgestone, and the 2017 Dell Match Play in March. He is the only 'WGC Slammer.' With six total wins in the WGC series, he ranks second behind Tiger Woods (USA, 18 wins).
Kevin Streelman (USA) reduced three strokes to claim his second runner-up finish of the season (18-under par 262), following the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February. 'The Hulk' Bryson DeChambeau (USA) finished tied for 6th place (15-under par 265) with a 2-under par round, marking his sixth consecutive top-10 finish. Brendan Todd (USA), who led the previous day, lost five strokes and dropped to a tie for 11th place (13-under par 267). 'Number 1' Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) joined this group.
