4 Workers Cleaning Manholes in Daegu Collapse... 2 in Cardiac Arrest
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] At around 5:42 PM on the 27th, four workers cleaning a manhole at a resource recycling company in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, collapsed.
After one of the four workers collapsed first, the other three workers nearby entered to rescue him but also collapsed one after another.
They were immediately transported to the hospital for treatment. Among them, two people including A (56) are in cardiac arrest, and the other two are in a semi-conscious state.
The manhole where the accident occurred is known to be a place where wet waste paper scraps accumulate and is cleaned about once every few months.
According to measurements taken by the fire authorities at the accident site, residual gases such as hydrogen sulfide and nitrogen dioxide exceeded the permissible concentration levels.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident by questioning on-site personnel, suspecting that the workers collapsed due to suffocation from gases inside the manhole.
