On the 26th, the prosecution's investigation review committee recommended the suspension of investigation and non-prosecution for Vice Chairman Lee, who is involved in the merger of Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries and the management succession suspicion.
Immediately after the recommendation from the investigation review committee, Samsung's legal team stated, "We respect the decision of the members of the Prosecution Investigation Review Committee," and added, "We express our gratitude for giving Samsung and Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong the opportunity to focus on corporate activities and overcome the current crisis."
Industry insiders expect that with the non-prosecution recommendation from the prosecution's investigation review committee, Vice Chairman Lee's judicial risks will decrease, allowing him to concentrate more on management activities.
In particular, since Vice Chairman Lee has recently emphasized a sense of crisis regarding internal and external conditions through on-site management, attention is focused on whether the 'New Samsung' initiative will gain further momentum.
Earlier, Vice Chairman Lee personally inspected the semiconductor plant located in Xi'an, Shanxi Province, China, and announced a 10 trillion won investment plan to expand the ultra-fine extreme ultraviolet (EUV) foundry production line at the Pyeongtaek plant in Gyeonggi Province. He then announced an aggressive move by consecutively unveiling an 8 trillion won investment in the Pyeongtaek NAND flash production line.
