Jeonbuk Inancho Myungchang Recognized as Holder of National Intangible Cultural Property No. 5 Pansori (Heungboga)
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Gominhyeong] The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 26th that Inancho (female, born 1961) from Namwon, Jeonbuk, has been recognized as the holder of National Intangible Cultural Property No. 5, ‘Pansori Heungboga.’
Holder Inancho currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Namwon City Gugak Orchestra. On the 26th, she was acknowledged by the Cultural Heritage Administration for her outstanding transmission ability, transmission environment, and contribution to transmission activities, and after a 30-day recognition notice period and review by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee, she was selected as the holder.
Master Inancho, who naturally encountered sound in a family of traditional Korean music, began learning Pansori from the late teacher Kim Sangyong in 1967, and since 1980, she studied under the late former holder Kang Dogeun (1918?1996), completing Heungboga.
In particular, she has faithfully inherited the Dongpyeonje style of Pansori, passed down from former holder Kang Dogeun, based in Namwon, Jeollabuk-do, demonstrating a stable vocal technique, and has cultivated many disciples along with various transmission activities.
With Master Inancho’s recognition as a holder of National Intangible Cultural Property, Jeollabuk-do has elevated its status as a hometown of intangible cultural heritage, with a total of 12 National Intangible Cultural Properties and 86 Jeollabuk-do Intangible Cultural Properties scattered throughout the province.
