President Moon appoints Jeon Hyun-hee as Anti-Corruption Commission Chair and Kim Chang-ryong as Police Chief; Han Sang-hyuk to renew term as Broadcasting Commissioner (Update)

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] On the 26th, President Moon Jae-in nominated former Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Jeon Hyun-hee (56) as the new Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, and Kim Chang-ryong, Chief of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency (56), as the new Commissioner General of the National Police Agency. Han Sang-hyuk was confirmed for a second term as Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission (59).
Blue House spokesperson Kang Min-seok held a briefing at the Chuncheon Press Center in the afternoon to announce these appointments.
Nominee Jeon Hyun-hee graduated from Busan Teresa Girls' High School, Seoul National University College of Dentistry, and earned a master's degree in Medical Law from Korea University. She has served as a director of the Korean Society of Medical Law, a member of the Environment Committee and Women's Human Rights Committee of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society, and director of the Green Consumer Network's Green Citizens' Rights Center. She served as a member of the 18th and 20th National Assembly.
Spokesperson Kang said, "As a lawyer, she has worked hard to protect public interests through consumer damage relief and medical litigation, and during her time as a lawmaker, she has been active in various fields such as environment, labor, land transportation, and health and welfare, mediating sharp social conflicts. Based on her expertise and broad experience accumulated in politics, law, and medicine, as well as her strong reformist will demonstrated so far, she is deemed the right person to complete anti-corruption and fair reform, enhance national integrity, and resolve social conflicts." He added, "We expect her to carry out the Moon Jae-in administration's core policies for a fair and transparent society without any setbacks."
Nominee Kim Chang-ryong graduated from Busan Gaya High School and the Police University with a degree in law. He has served as chief of the Seoul Eunpyeong Police Station, attach? at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States, director of the National Police Agency's Public Safety Bureau, chief of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, and has been serving as chief of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency.
Spokesperson Kang said, "Nominee Kim has extensive experience in overall police work and is highly trusted within the organization due to his excellent policy planning skills and execution ability, not only in field operations. We expect him to steadily promote police reforms such as investigation structure reform and the introduction of the autonomous police system."

Regarding Chairperson Han of the Korea Communications Commission, he took over the remaining term after former Chairperson Lee Hyo-sung abruptly resigned with about a year left last year. His reappointment was decided ahead of the expiration of the remaining term in July. The Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission holds a ministerial-level position with a three-year term.
