Samsung Engineering Signs Additional Contract for Mexico Refinery Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Engineering announced on the 26th that it signed an additional contract for pile construction at the Dos Bocas Refinery Project in Mexico on the 24th (local time).
This contract covers approximately 6,000 remaining piles from the contract signed in May this year, amounting to about 110 million USD (approximately 130 billion KRW). With this contract, the cumulative contract amount for the project has increased to about 420 million USD (approximately 500 billion KRW).
This project is being carried out by Samsung Engineering's Mexico branch, which won the order last August from PTI-ID, a subsidiary of the Mexican state-owned oil company PEMEX. The project consists of two phases: Phase 1 includes basic design and some detailed design, and Phase 2 covers the remaining detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
The additional contract has also accelerated the project schedule. Originally, Phase 2 was to begin after the completion of Phase 1. However, Samsung Engineering explained that the client requested faster progress, so some procurement and construction processes of Phase 2 are being carried out earlier than planned.
Andres Manuel, the President of Mexico, visited the Dos Bocas refinery project site earlier this month.

Not only did Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador mention it as a top priority project during a government meeting, but he also visited the site earlier this month to inspect the progress and encourage the on-site workforce.
A Samsung Engineering official stated, "During the president's visit, we could confirm his affection and commitment to the project," adding, "We will promptly complete the ongoing processes to ensure there are no setbacks in proceeding with Phase 2."

Meanwhile, the project, located in Dos Bocas, Tabasco state in eastern Mexico, involves constructing crude oil production facilities with a capacity of 340,000 barrels per day. Samsung Engineering is currently executing Phase 1 of Package 2 (which includes four units such as diesel hydrodesulfurization facilities) and Package 3 (heavy oil catalytic cracking process facilities) out of a total of six packages.
