Daegu Police Agency "Contact Regarding Accusation Movement" Explanation... Samhwa Food Union Calls It a "Blatant Lie"
Union's Allegation Met with Police Response: "Contact Was Real but No Coercion"
Union Retorts, "No Prior Complaint or Investigation Request... Reveal Real Names"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] When the labor union of Daegu Samhwa Food, caught up in the 'fabricated insider whistleblowing' controversy, exposed signs of a 'planned investigation' by the police, the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency issued a statement to clarify the matter. In response, the labor union released a counter-statement rebutting the police's explanation, turning the issue into a public opinion battle over the 'essence of the investigation.'
On the 24th, the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency issued a statement regarding the Samhwa Food labor union's press conference exposing 'biased and planned investigation,' stating that "contact was made, but there was no coercion."
Regarding the union's claim that they were coerced to file complaints and accusations, the Daegu Police explained, "After multiple media outlets reported related suspicions, while verifying their authenticity, the union expressed their intention to file a complaint, so contact was made; however, there was no coercion to file the complaint."
They also stated, "The union ultimately urged the police to investigate after failing to reach an agreement with the management," adding, "The police submitted intelligence according to relevant regulations, conducted the investigation based on law and principles, and related materials are attached to the investigation records (which were forwarded to the prosecution)."
In response, the Samhwa Food labor union issued a statement on the 25th, saying, "The police's explanation is a hastily fabricated blatant lie made in a fluster over the exposure of the planned investigation," and refuted, "The union never initiated any complaint filing or urged an investigation beforehand."
They continued, "If our union had initiated a complaint or urged an investigation first, the police should disclose the real names of those involved," emphasizing, "As already exposed, the essence of the Samhwa Food incident is a meticulously planned and biased investigation due to a conspiracy, not unsanitary conditions."
They further stated, "Even now, Daegu Police Chief Song Minheon should thoroughly review the entire investigation, hold those responsible for the planned and biased investigation accountable, and bow in apology to the 2.5 million citizens," declaring, "We will not cease protest rallies and will pursue civil and criminal liabilities until our legitimate demands are met."
Meanwhile, the Samhwa Food labor union of the National Food Industry Labor Union Federation held a press conference on the 24th, revealing that "On January 31, detectives from the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency visited a Korean Confederation of Trade Unions official and coerced them to write a complaint under the name of the Samhwa Food labor union, alleging illegal manufacturing (recycling of returned products)."
