Suncheon-si, Rose Theft Incident Occurs... Please Do Not Take the Roses
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City has posted a banner seeking witnesses to a rose theft incident near the apartment complex in the Ocheon district park area.
Suncheon City reported that about a month after planting the roses, a theft occurred 10 days ago involving a vehicle, and the incident was reported to the Suncheon Police Station. So far, about 100 roses have gone missing. Initially, one or two roses disappeared at a time, but 10 days ago, there was a report that three people used a vehicle to uproot the roses, and the case is currently under investigation by the Suncheon Police.
The stolen roses are a variety worth about 10,000 won per root, and including planting costs, the theft caused significant property damage. Roses planted only a few days ago have roots that have not yet settled, making them easy to uproot, so theft incidents occur occasionally.
A Suncheon City official stated, “To prevent rose theft, we are installing nets and seeking cooperation from residents, including the management office of the Ocheon district apartment complex and representatives of the tenants, to protect the environment themselves.”
Meanwhile, the official added, “The rose theft incident is a shameful act. Rather than just finding the culprit, we hope to raise awareness so that no more roses are uprooted.”

Initially, Suncheon City promoted a message on a small sign about the size of an A4 sheet asking people not to uproot the roses, but after the theft involving a vehicle occurred, the sign was replaced with a banner. It is a time when mature civic consciousness in Suncheon is needed, and witnesses can report to the Suncheon City Parks and Greenery Division or the Suncheon Police Station.
