View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] As the launch of the Galaxy Fold 2 approaches, the model name and expected images are being revealed one after another. The front camera is expected to change from a notch to a punch-hole and be located in the center right. The cover display of the product, presumed to be a light model, is expected to become smaller like the Galaxy Z Flip.
On the 24th (local time), IT tipster Ice Universe revealed a rendering image of the Galaxy Fold 2 on Twitter. The punch-hole located in the center right when folded, rather than the center of the screen when unfolded, catches the eye. The rear camera module in the rendering image is indicated to have an induction design. Ice Universe explained, "At first, I thought the position of the punch-hole (front camera) was awkward, but upon careful examination, this position seems to be the most optimal."
On the same day, Max Weinbach, a writer for XDA Developers and IT tipster, stated, "The model name of the unlocked Galaxy Fold 2 is 'SM-F916U1,' and software development for this model has begun."
Rendering images of a product presumed to be a light model with a rose gold color and a small, long cover display have also appeared. These are rendering images created by IT specialized media Pigtou based on a product design patented by Samsung Electronics.
In the revealed images, the cover display of the foldable phone has a thin and long design instead of the previous 4.6-inch screen. There is also speculation that it will only be used for checking notifications or taking selfies, like the Galaxy Z Flip. While concerns about display damage may decrease, the downside is that the functions available without unfolding the foldable phone are limited.
IT specialized media PhoneArena explained, "Many Galaxy Fold users were dissatisfied with the cover screen being only 4.6 inches and the wide bezel of the main screen, but the expectation that the bezel will be reduced further and a punch-hole will replace the notch is somewhat credible," but added, "The thin and long external screen in the rendering images released by Pigtou may provoke user backlash and is not highly reliable."
So far, the prevailing expectation is that the cover screen of the Galaxy Fold 2 will increase from the existing 4.6 inches to 6.2 inches. The screen size when unfolded is also expected to expand from the current 7.3 inches to 7.7 inches. The Galaxy Fold 2's display is expected to use the same UTG material as the Galaxy Z Flip, and due to durability issues, it is unlikely to support the S Pen. The Galaxy Fold 2's camera is known to be equipped with a 108-megapixel lens identical to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, a telephoto lens (48 megapixels) supporting 30x zoom, and an ultra-wide lens (12 megapixels).
