Major Events for the 70th Anniversary of the 6.25 War
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] Professor Seokyung Deok of Sungshin Women's University will screen a video titled "Let's Not Forget the Participating Countries" on 12 major electronic billboards across Seoul starting from the 25th, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Korean War.
The one-minute video introduces the flags and related photos of 22 participating countries, accompanied by the message, "We will remember your dedication." The 22 participating countries include 16 combat support countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Turkey, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Colombia, Greece, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ethiopia, and South Africa, as well as 6 medical support countries: Norway, Sweden, India, Italy, Denmark, and Germany.
The video can be viewed on large electronic billboards in 12 major areas with high foot traffic such as Myeongdong, Hongdae, Yangjae, and Jamsil. The video, planned and produced by Professor Seokyung Deok, is expected to be displayed approximately 10,000 times by the end of this month with sponsorship from Morningstar (CEO Park Joo-hyun).
Professor Seokyung Deok explained, "Many young people do not well remember the countries that helped Korea during the Korean War, so we decided to launch this video campaign on this occasion," adding, "In the second half of the year, we will separately produce and promote a video expressing gratitude to them overseas."
As the honorary national chairman of the 70th Anniversary Korean War Project Committee, he will engage in activities to promote gratitude to the participating countries and the importance of remains excavation both domestically and internationally until the end of this year.
The 70th Anniversary Korean War Project Committee will also hold a "Veterans' Consolation Gathering and Concert" at 6 p.m. on the 26th at the War Memorial of Korea in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The event, held under the theme "Memory for Peace, and One Step Forward," will be attended by about 300 people including Korean War veterans and diplomatic envoys from participating countries stationed in Korea.
During the consolation gathering, a video message from Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun expressing gratitude to UN veterans will be screened. According to the project committee, in the pre-recorded video, Prime Minister Chung said, "Thanks to the sacrifice and dedication of UN veterans, the Republic of Korea was able to achieve economic growth and democratization," and "Korea does not forget this."
Since 2010, overseas UN veterans have attended consolation gatherings annually, but this year they were not invited due to the COVID-19 situation.
The consolation gathering will proceed in the order of national ceremony, commemorative performances, awarding of medals and appreciation medals, commemorative speeches, letter readings, and screening of video messages from UN veterans sent by UN participating countries. Following the gathering, a concert with the theme "Remembering the Sacrifice of Veterans" will take place.
