Shinsegae Department Store Launches 'What to Eat Today' Featuring Seasonal Ingredients and Discount Coupons
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Shinsegae Department Store has stepped up to help people who struggle with deciding their daily dinner menu.
Shinsegae announced on the 25th that it has launched a new mobile service called ‘What to Eat Today’ this month.
Through What to Eat Today, customers can view the department store’s food hall at a glance. It provides information on seasonal ingredients, popular products by store, and special discount events. The service is available on the Shinsegae Department Store mobile application (app) and will be updated twice a month.
Inspired by customers worried about their dinner menus, ‘What to Eat Today?’ directly guides users on how to shop effectively. It is organized into four categories: ▲fresh seasonal ingredients and essential cooking items ▲diet & health foods ▲desserts ▲daily necessities, broadening the range of choices.
Each category features special discount products or limited quantity events by store, and scanning the barcode on the respective page during purchase allows customers to buy at discounted prices. Instead of paper pamphlets, direct mail (DM) is integrated into the app, enhancing accessibility for the MZ generation and promoting an eco-friendly shopping culture. In the future, comparing product views and actual purchases will help plan upcoming events, making it a two-way marketing tool.
In fact, Shinsegae piloted the What to Eat Today service from the 3rd to the 14th of this month, targeting seasonal ingredients such as live abalones from Wando, Chodang corn, cherries, as well as daily necessities like hand sanitizers and oral cleansers. During the event period, sales of Chodang corn, live abalones, and organic eggs increased by 30% compared to the previous year despite the spread of COVID-19. Sales of hand sanitizers and oral cleansers also rose by 35%.
Meanwhile, since September 2017, Shinsegae Department Store has led eco-friendly marketing by eliminating DM, which was the industry’s main communication tool, and strengthening smart messaging. Since December last year, it has been introducing photo spots, recommended foods, and date locations that customers can enjoy at each store.
