[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A man in his 70s collecting scrap paper was hit and killed by a passenger car, prompting the police to launch an investigation. A woman in her 20s who was helping the elderly woman was also struck by the vehicle and injured.
According to the Cheonan Seobuk Police Station in Chungnam, at around 11:33 p.m. on the 23rd, A (79, female) and B (26, female) were hit by a passenger car driven by a man in his 20s near the center line of a four-lane road in Seonghwan-eup, Cheonan.
A was transported to a nearby hospital by the dispatched 119 ambulance but ultimately passed away, while B sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
Police investigation revealed that A was crossing the road while picking up scrap paper that had fallen from a transport cart, and B, who saw this, was helping A when the accident occurred.
The driver of the passenger car was found not to be under the influence of alcohol.
