Gwangsan-gu Public Health Center in Gwangju, Firmly Secures Health of Pregnant Women and Infants
Implementation of the Yeongyang Plus Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangsan District Health Center in Gwangju Metropolitan City is conducting the ‘2020 Nutrition Plus Project’ to promote healthy eating habits and nutritional improvement for pregnant women and infants, who are nutritionally vulnerable groups.
According to the Gwangsan District Health Center on the 24th, the ‘Nutrition Plus Project’ is a health management support service that provides nutrition education and customized supplementary foods for a certain period to pregnant women, postpartum nursing mothers, and infants who have nutritional risk factors (anemia, stunting, underweight, dietary imbalance), helping the smooth development and growth of mothers and children.
As the government’s COVID-19 guidelines shifted to ‘social distancing in daily life,’ the district recruited candidates for the 2020 Nutrition Plus Project through a reservation system from the 25th to the 29th of last month. An orientation session was held from the 10th to the 12th for the 127 final selected participants.
To minimize contact during selection, a time reservation system was operated five times daily at one-hour intervals, disinfection was conducted before and after visits, hand sanitizers were provided, and ventilation was performed more than twice a day, strictly adhering to COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
The final selected participants will receive nutrition counseling related to meal intake for a minimum of six months to a maximum of one year starting this month, monthly nutrition education, and food packages tailored to their characteristics once or twice a month.
Additionally, periodic assessments such as height and weight measurements, anemia diagnosis, and nutritional intake surveys will be conducted to understand nutritional status, and customized nutrition management and education will be provided through home visits.
