Last Month's Net Population Inflow in Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and Chungbuk... Net Outflow in Seoul, Daegu, and Gyeongbuk
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Last month, six provinces including Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and Chungbuk experienced a net inflow of population, while 11 provinces including Seoul, Daegu, and Gyeongnam saw a net outflow.
The Statistics Korea announced on the 24th the 'May Domestic Population Movement Statistics' containing this information.
The total number of movers in May was 569,000, showing a level similar to the previous year. Among the total movers, 67.8% moved within provinces, and 32.2% moved between provinces.
The net migration, calculated by subtracting out-migration from in-migration, showed net inflows in six provinces including Gyeonggi (11,298 people), Gangwon (1,150 people), and Chungbuk (242 people). Meanwhile, 11 provinces including Seoul (-2,709 people), Daegu (-2,267 people), and Gyeongnam (-1,629 people) experienced net outflows.

The migration rate, defined as the number of movers per 100 registered residents, was 13.1% nationwide, also similar to the previous year. By province, Gyeonggi (1.0%), Gangwon (0.9%), and Jeju (0.3%) recorded net inflows, while Daegu and Ulsan (-1.1%), Gyeongbuk and Jeonbuk (-0.7%) recorded net outflows.
