Pohang City, 'Employment Succession Agreement' for Food Waste Service Workers
New External Contracting Company "Improvement of Working Conditions Beyond Current Level"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 23rd, Pohang City in Gyeongsangbuk-do held a signing ceremony at City Hall to agree on the succession of employment for workers related to the outsourcing service for food waste disposal.
About 10 people attended the ceremony, including Jeong Sang-jun, Chairman of the Pohang Steel General Labor Union, Choi Young-joo, Chairman of the Shin Yeongsanman Industrial Union, the representative of the new contractor Wonjin Enterprise Co., Ltd., and the Director of the Environment and Greenery Bureau of Pohang City. They finally signed the agreement, which was created after more than 10 rounds of negotiations on employment succession and wages.
The main points of the agreement are ▲the principle of employment succession for 38 collection and transportation workers ▲recognition of continuous years of service ▲improvements in working conditions and welfare levels to create an environment where workers can work with peace of mind.
Until now, workers of Yeongsanman Industrial, the current food waste collection, transportation, and disposal contractor, have opposed Pohang City's outsourcing of food waste due to wage reductions and employment insecurity. With the expiration of Yeongsanman Industrial's contract, the new contractor was selected as Wonjin Enterprise.
A representative of Wonjin Enterprise, the new collection and transportation contractor, stated, "We will do our best to ensure that workers can work in a comfortable and stable environment with working conditions at or above the current level," and Choi Young-joo, Chairman of the Shin Yeongsanman Labor Union, responded, "We will do our best in the food waste collection and transportation service to ensure that citizens have no concerns."
