Jeonghee Kang, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, "The First Agenda of the 21st National Assembly Should Be the Proposal of the 'Yeosun Incident Special Act'"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Council's Yeosu·Suncheon 10.19 Incident Special Committee and the Yeosun Incident Bereaved Families Association announced on the 23rd that they requested the 300 members of the 21st National Assembly through a letter titled 'A Letter to the Members' on the 18th to submit the 'Special Act on the Truth Investigation and Restoration of Honor for the Yeosu·Suncheon 10.19 Incident' as the first agenda item when the 21st National Assembly convenes.
The letter contains a demand for the prompt enactment of the 'Yeosun Incident Special Act' to resolve the Yeosun Incident, a painful chapter in modern Korean history, to heal the wounds of the wrongfully sacrificed victims and bereaved families, and to restore their honor as soon as possible.
Chairman Kang Jeonghee has been making continuous efforts to persuade the National Assembly and the government together with local bereaved families' organizations since September two years ago for the complete resolution of the Yeosun Incident.
As a result, on January 20 of this year, a not guilty verdict was obtained in the retrial of the late Jang Hwanbong, who was wrongfully sacrificed at the young age of 29 while working for the Railroad Administration.
Before sending this letter, a letter explaining the truth of the Yeosun Incident and the necessity of enacting the special law was sent to the candidates for the 21st National Assembly from the Jeonnam region who participated in the April 15 general election, and active cooperation was promised by the candidates.
Chairman Kang emphasized, "Although special laws have been proposed several times in the National Assembly from the 16th to the 20th sessions, they were always obstructed, and even after 72 years, the victims of the Yeosun Incident have passed away wrongfully without even having their honor restored."
