Suncheon-si Maegok-dong Selected for Crime Prevention Environmental Improvement Project
Assemblyman So Byeong-cheol, "Will Strive to Create a Safe Urban Environment"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Maegok-dong, Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do, the constituency of So Byeong-cheol (Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, Gurye Gap, Judiciary Committee) of the Democratic Party of Korea, will receive support from the Ministry of Justice for various consulting and program operations to create a crime-safe urban environment, accelerating the improvement of the deteriorated residential environment.
On the 22nd, the Ministry of Justice selected the Maegok-dong area in Suncheon as the target site for the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) project promoted by the Ministry of Justice.
The CPTED project conducts a crime impact assessment on the target area and, based on this, establishes mid- to long-term plans for crime prevention and basic designs for specific environmental improvements. It also operates educational programs for residents and produces village safety maps.
Moreover, being selected as a CPTED project target area not only involves designing an urban environment for crime prevention but also grants additional points in the selection of the urban regeneration New Deal project promoted by Suncheon City. Through opinion gathering during project planning, it also helps resolve residents’ long-standing issues, creating a triple benefit.
It is known that the selection for this project was also influenced by So Byeong-cheol, the representative of the relevant constituency, who was uniquely confirmed as a member of the Judiciary Committee in the 21st National Assembly from Jeollanam-do and has been actively involved.

Representative So Byeong-cheol pledged, “Through the CPTED project, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice, I will strive to create a safe residential environment so that the citizens of Suncheon can live without fear of crime. Additionally, I will support Suncheon’s selection for the urban regeneration New Deal project, providing an opportunity to revitalize the deteriorated old downtown area of Suncheon.”
