Drunk 20s Man Crashes Into Rear of 50s Couple's Car... Wife Dies
Driver Blood Alcohol Concentration at License Cancellation Level
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A driver in his 20s, who was driving on the highway while intoxicated, collided with a vehicle carrying a couple in their 50s ahead, resulting in the wife’s death and the husband sustaining serious injuries.
At around 1:45 a.m. on the 22nd, on the Pyeongtaek-Paju Expressway near the Dongsiheung Junction in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, a Sonata passenger car driven by Mr. A (23), heading toward Pyeongtaek, rear-ended a Spark passenger car driven by Mr. B (57) ahead.
As a result of the accident, Ms. C (56), who was seated in the front passenger seat next to Mr. B, was seriously injured and transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away.
Mr. B also suffered fractures, including broken ribs, and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Mr. A, who caused the accident, was confirmed to have no significant injuries.
It was reported that the impact was severe enough to severely damage both Mr. A’s and Mr. B’s vehicles.
Investigations revealed that at the time of the accident, Mr. A was driving on the highway in a state of intoxication with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.143%, which is above the legal limit for license cancellation.
The vehicle driven by Mr. A was registered in his name, and there were no passengers in the car.
