Regarding recent mentions within the ruling party about Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's resignation, he pointed out, "The decision on his position lies with President Moon Jae-in."
At the United Future Party Emergency Committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the 22nd, Chairman Kim said, "Speculation on apartment prices occurs because there is too much money and interest rates are too low, creating a psychological factor that asset values will rise."
He added, "It seems they think raising the comprehensive real estate tax and property tax can control apartment prices, but there have been many attempts in the past, and real estate can never be controlled by taxes," and criticized, "Given the current economic situation, I don't understand what measures they think can control real estate."
He continued, "Real estate landlords are exempt from comprehensive real estate tax and property tax," and added, "Even if landlords purchase apartments to increase property value, there are no sanctions, and this point needs to be corrected."
Regarding the calls for Prosecutor General Yoon's resignation, Chairman Kim said, "Prosecutor General Yoon was appointed by President Moon with absolute trust, and the decision on his position is solely up to the appointing authority, the President," adding, "President Moon should clearly express his confidence in Prosecutor General Yoon or take measures regarding him for the public to accept."
He said, "In politics, people openly say things like 'If it were me, I would resign,' and some talk as if the April 15 general election will decide Prosecutor General Yoon's position, which seems very contradictory and pitiful. I hope President Moon clarifies his stance."
On inter-Korean relations, he referred to the 'Panmunjom Axe Murder Incident,' stating, "Even in conflict situations, there are things that should and should not be done, but they committed a reckless act by blowing up the Kaesong Industrial Complex liaison office, which is our Republic of Korea's property, in broad daylight."
He said, "At that time, China and the Soviet Union also condemned the act, and when the crisis of an imminent war arose, then North Korean leader Kim Il-sung officially issued an apology statement. It is a serious problem how North Korea has been allowed to continue such arrogant behavior."
Chairman Kim said, "Since 2018, President Moon and North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un have walked and held meetings at the Dorbodari Bridge in Panmunjom, seemingly discussing many things, but what was actually said?" He added, "The public is greatly skeptical about why there has been no counteraction despite North Korea's arrogant attitude, and I ask for a clear explanation."
He continued, "The inter-Korean relations, which were so proudly promoted until now, have completely failed with the liaison office explosion," and added, "An apology to the public and personnel measures for those involved in pursuing inter-Korean relations are absolutely necessary."
Meanwhile, Chairman Kim pointed out, "Peace is maintained when there is strength, not just by words," and said, "The division still continues, and North Korea constantly threatens and harasses the South, which is the reality." He stated, "The public may be concerned about the recent inter-Korean situation, but if we unite with consolidated strength and respond appropriately, we will sustain the current prosperity."
