Starbucks and Areumdawoon Foundation Launch 'Youth Self-Reliance Settlement Dream Support Project'

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Starbucks Coffee Korea announced on the 22nd that it held a launching ceremony to mark the official start of the ‘2020 Youth Independence Settlement Dream Support Project’ in collaboration with the Areumdaun Foundation to support the independence and dreams of youth aging out of care.
At the launching ceremony held on the 20th, Song Hoseop, CEO of Starbucks, Kwon Chan, Secretary General of the Areumdaun Foundation, and Kim Seongmin, CEO of Brothers Keeper, attended and presented support certificates to the 25 youth aging out of care who were finally selected. They also held a special coffee lecture by Starbucks coffee experts to introduce coffee and the barista profession.
Youth aging out of care refers to adolescents who have been living in child care facilities and must leave the facilities and become independent upon turning 18 years old. Except for some youth who receive extended protection while attending university, most youth leave the care facilities at the age of 18.
Starbucks provides professional coffee training and Starbucks barista employment opportunities to those youth aging out of care who wish to participate, and supports practical independence opportunities by assisting with admission to Hanyang Cyber University to help them enter society more stably.
In addition, each supported youth will receive up to 5 million KRW in independence support funds, and programs such as independence education, mentoring, and travel activities worth approximately 500,000 KRW per person will be provided to help youth aging out of care develop self-directedness and various dream opportunities.

Meanwhile, Starbucks signed an MOU with the Areumdaun Foundation in January to support the independence of youth aging out of care who must become independent after leaving care facilities. Following this, Starbucks has conducted campaigns supporting youth dreams and raised a total fund of 250 million KRW for the youth support project.
