Accordingly, KIRO, headquartered in Pohang, will invest a total budget of 29.5 billion KRW (14.4 billion KRW national funds, 2.7 billion KRW provincial funds, 12.4 billion KRW from Gumi City) over five years until 2024 to build the Robot Vocational Innovation Center with a total floor area of 3,369㎡ in the Gumi National 4th Industrial Complex. This center will operate short- and long-term specialized vocational training courses such as robot operator and coordinator training programs, manufacturing robot education courses, and partner company-linked education courses.
The Gumi Robot Vocational Innovation Center will be equipped with about 110 units of robot practice training equipment by process and field, including manufacturing robot operation equipment, field-specific application practice equipment, unmanned guided vehicle (AGV) training equipment, and collaborative robot training equipment. This is the largest scale in the country for a single robot field.
Gyeongbuk Province plans to break away from the existing theory-centered robot education by establishing the Robot Regional Innovation Center and operate practice-oriented training courses using equipment such as 6-axis multi-joint robots, SCARA robots, and parallel robots. Until the Robot Vocational Innovation Center is built, a temporary training space will be prepared within the Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute, and from 2022, qualification certification courses linked with leading domestic robot companies such as Hyundai Robotics, Doosan Robotics, and Neuromeka will be developed and operated.
