[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 19th that the establishment plan for the Korea Polytechnic University Robot Campus, built in Hwaryong-dong, Yeongcheon City, has been finally approved by the Ministry of Education.
The Yeongcheon Polytechnic University, which has been a major local issue for several years, has recently attracted attention as a key issue for revitalizing the local economy amid the difficult economic situation and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In particular, Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo explained that the active proposals and consultations by Yeongcheon City, along with the close support activities of National Assembly member Lee Man-hee, played a crucial role in achieving the final approval.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo personally made active proposals to Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun and Deputy Prime Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye through a video conference of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters during the critical final confirmation stage, eliciting a positive response.
The Korea Polytechnic University Robot Campus was promoted with the aim of training 300 specialized technical personnel in the field of robot convergence, on a site of 78,239.8㎡ and a total building area of 14,300㎡ from 2015 to 2019. The total project cost for the campus establishment was 32.5 billion KRW (22.2 billion KRW from the national government and 10.3 billion KRW from the city government).
The Korea Polytechnic University Robot Campus will recruit 100 freshmen in September 2020 and officially open in March 2021.
