Assemblyman Kim Hoe-jae, "Korean Air's Withdrawal from Yeosu Douses the City's Rise as the Nation's Largest Tourist Destination"
Demand Thorough Review from Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
Korean Air Should Not Only Focus on Immediate Load Factor but Also Consider Future Tourist Destination Yeosu
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Kim Hoe-jae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Yeosu-eul, Jeonnam), strongly opposed Korean Air's withdrawal from the Yeosu route on the 19th.
Rep. Kim Hoe-jae stated, "Korean Air, which started operating the Yeosu route 72 years ago, has decided to discontinue the route after 48 years citing low passenger rates and deficits. This is not simply a route closure but pouring cold water on Yeosu, which is emerging as the country's largest tourist destination," adding, "Korean Air should not only look at the immediate passenger rates and deficits but should reconsider the route closure by looking at the future Yeosu, which is rising as the nation's top tourist spot."
Rep. Kim also said, "I understand that Korean Air will apply for approval of the route closure to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport next week," and added, "I have requested the Aviation Industry Division of the Ministry to thoroughly review the route closure, including any manipulation of passenger rates."
