Bolton: "Pompeo said 'Trump is a liar... 0% success in North Korea policy'" Criticism
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Testimony has emerged that Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, spoke ill of President Donald Trump during the 2018 Singapore North Korea-U.S. summit.
According to excerpts from the new book "The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir" by former White House National Security Advisor John Bolton, released on the 17th (local time) by The New York Times (NYT), Secretary Pompeo secretly handed Bolton a note disparaging the president during the first North Korea-U.S. summit held in Singapore in 2018.
The note read, "He is so full of shit" referring to President Trump. Bolton also claimed that a month later, Pompeo disparaged Trump's North Korea policy, saying the chances of success were 0%.
Secretary Pompeo is the leading figure in the U.S. negotiations with North Korea. If these remarks are true, it suggests that even within the administration, there were voices of dissatisfaction and discord regarding the 'top-down' style North Korea negotiations between President Trump and North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un.
