View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] The stepfather (35), who brutally abused his 9-year-old daughter by beating her with a metal rod until her whole body and calves were bruised and locking her in a bathtub filled with water to suffocate her, said "I love my daughter" before the arrest warrant was requested. The biological mother (27) expressed anger about child abuse on an online cafe. Those who committed the cruel child abuse were, in fact, showing thoroughly two-faced behavior.
B, the stepfather accused of abusing his 4th-grade stepdaughter A (9) in Changnyeong, Gyeongnam, appeared at court on the 15th for a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination).
At around 10:25 a.m. that day, B got off a police escort vehicle and entered the Changwon District Court Miryang Branch. He covered his face with a gray hat and mask.
Before entering the court, when asked by reporters, "Why did you torment the child?" B said, "I never thought of her as someone else's daughter. I thought of her as my daughter and still love her very much."
When asked questions such as "Did you abuse her together with the biological mother?" and "Why didn't you feed the child?" he replied, "I am deeply sorry," adding, "All of this is my fault for not properly taking care of the family. I apologize."

The biological mother, who was actively involved in local mom cafes, posted messages expressing anger about various child abuse cases and showed maternal love.
She posted a total of nine posts related to child abuse cases. In 2015, on a cafe, the biological mother shared a news article titled "This kind of crazy person in the world (warning: child abuse anger)" about a father in Gangwon Province who habitually abused his children.
In 2016, she also shared an Incheon child abuse case asking for it to be widely known. In that post, she wrote, "There is chaos in the Incheon area cafe right now. The child who became an angel. I hope the remaining family members do not grieve."
The biological mother, who revealed in the community that she has four daughters, rarely mentioned her eldest daughter A.
The stepfather’s cruel abuse, despite claiming to love his daughter, was truly horrific. A, who moved from Geoje, Gyeongnam to Changnyeong in January this year with the stepfather, biological mother, and three step-siblings, lived alone in the attic. She was effectively confined even inside the house. Often, she ate only one meal a day.
The biological mother, who vented her anger at the child abuse perpetrator, inflicted burns on A’s instep and soles using a glue gun and metal chopsticks heated by fire. In particular, the stepfather beat her so severely with a metal rod that bruises covered her whole body and calves, and locked her in a bathtub filled with water, making it impossible for her to breathe.

The couple tied a metal chain around A’s neck and fixed it to the veranda railing, neglecting her, for two days before her escape, because she resisted by saying she wanted to leave the house. They only loosened the chain when A ate or went to the bathroom.
Then, taking advantage of a moment when the chain was loosened, A escaped by climbing over the veranda railing and crossing the outer wall to the neighboring house. It was a life-risking escape. At the time of the escape, only the biological mother and step-siblings were at home; the stepfather was not present.
Wearing pajamas and barefoot, A came out of the villa and ran on the road, where a resident found her and reported to the police.
Meanwhile, the Changwon District Court issued an arrest warrant on the 15th for the stepfather, the suspect in A’s abuse case. The stepfather is accused of habitually abusing his elementary school stepdaughter A since 2017 by chaining her and feeding her only one meal a day.
The biological mother is known to have suffered from schizophrenia and is undergoing a detailed diagnosis. After the diagnosis, she will be administratively hospitalized for two weeks before being investigated.
