Daegu City to Fully Reopen Daycare Centers on 22nd ... After 122 Days of COVID-19 Closure
Quarantine Expert Judges COVID-19 Has Entered a Stable Phase
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Childcare centers in Daegu, which have been closed since February 20 due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), will fully reopen on the 22nd, after 122 days.
Daegu City announced on the 17th that it decided to reopen after comprehensively reviewing experts' evaluations that COVID-19 has entered a stable phase, survey results from childcare centers and parents, and the absence of additional infections after reopening in other cities and provinces.
On June 1, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters recommended lifting the closure of childcare centers nationwide, except in the metropolitan area. Daegu City, which has been implementing stricter quarantine measures than the government, has been monitoring the infection situation and coordinating the reopening timing.
Even during the closure, children who inevitably require care, such as those with working parents, have been receiving emergency childcare services. The service utilization rate was only 6.6% at the end of March, when the COVID-19 spread was at its peak, but as the situation stabilized, it increased to 66.9% as of the 12th.
Before deciding on the full reopening, Daegu City conducted surveys targeting childcare center staff, parents, and citizens, and gathered opinions from quarantine experts. As a result, Daegu City reported that most parents hoped to send their children to childcare centers as soon as a safe childcare environment was established.
