Cheong "Kim Yo-jong's Statement is Unreasonable... Will Not Endure"
Yoon Dohan, Chief of National Communication, Strongly Criticizes 'Kim Yo-jong Statement'... Emergency Response Including NSC Video Conference
[Asia Economy reporters Ryu Jeong-min, Son Seon-hee, Kim Dong-pyo] Following North Korea's surprise demolition of the inter-Korean joint liaison office, Kim Yo-jong, First Deputy Director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, made disparaging remarks about President Moon Jae-in, prompting the Blue House to officially respond with a direct warning.
Yoon Do-han, Senior Secretary for Public Communication at the Blue House, strongly criticized on the 17th during a Chuncheon press briefing, stating, "The North's First Deputy Director Kim's statement showed a complete lack of understanding of President Moon's intentions and disparaged him in a very rude tone, which is an ignorant act."
The Blue House responded closely by holding an emergency video meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) Standing Committee from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. that day. Senior Secretary Yoon said, "We analyzed the content of North Korea's statement regarding inter-Korean relations and discussed our response measures." He added, "The National Security Office Director attended, along with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Unification, the Director of the National Intelligence Service, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the first and second deputy directors of the National Security Office."
Earlier, in his statement that day, First Deputy Director Kim harshly criticized President Moon's remarks on the 20th anniversary of the June 15th North-South Joint Declaration, describing them as "shameless and brazen content, like the sour aftertaste of drinking plain water, rambling on pointlessly." He accused the president of "self-justification and evasion of responsibility," "consistently relying on excuses and tricks," and said, "Listening to the speech made me feel nauseous without realizing it," calling him "a person who becomes more puzzling the more you see him," using harsh language and tone to condemn President Moon.
North Korea, citing First Deputy Director Kim, revealed the Blue House's proposal for a special envoy to the North and stated that it was rejected. North Korea unilaterally disclosed South Korea's proposal for a special envoy, labeling it as President Moon's "special envoy dispatch game to overcome the crisis," dismissing it as an "absurd proposal."
