Gwangju Nam-gu Strengthens Crackdown on Illegal Parking and Stopping Around Baegun Square
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 17th that it will deploy three emergency duty teams to conduct traffic guidance and illegal parking enforcement around the construction site until the end of November to alleviate traffic inconvenience caused by the demolition of Baegun Overpass and the construction of the underground road.
The emergency duty teams will be responsible for ensuring smooth traffic flow around Baegun Square from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
In particular, they will focus on cracking down on illegally parked vehicles on the detour roads and side streets around Baegun Square, which experience severe congestion during rush hours. Vehicles causing serious traffic disruptions will be towed immediately, and fines will be imposed.
The reason Nam-gu has strengthened traffic guidance and enforcement by deploying emergency duty teams is due to severe vehicle congestion occurring on detour sections located on side streets.
In fact, an inspection of the detour roads and side streets around Baegun Overpass from the 1st to the 10th revealed that hundreds of drivers were subject to guidance or fines for illegal parking.
The area with the most severe illegal parking is the detour road section from the entrance of Yangnim Humansia 2 Complex through Obang-ro, Yongsan IC, and the 2nd Ring Road heading toward Naju, where 119 fines and 150 guidance cases were issued.
Next were the detour road from the intersection at the entrance of Daehwa Apartment in Bongseon-dong toward Daeseong Elementary School (129 fines, 135 guidance cases) and the detour road from in front of Mirae Children's Hospital toward Nongsung (95 fines, 115 guidance cases).
