Namwon City Volunteer Center Working Hard to Help with Rural Farm Labor
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] The Namwon City Volunteer Center in Jeonbuk (Center Director Yang Kyungnim) visited Deokgwa on the 15th to carry out volunteer work to help onion farmers who are struggling to secure labor due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, rural population decline, and aging, as the full-scale farming season begins.
As the entry of foreign seasonal workers, who could temporarily replace the shortage of rural labor, has been delayed due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, more than 30 volunteers, including the Sanarae Volunteer Group, worked hard to harvest onions in an approximately 3,300㎡ onion field to support farmers facing severe labor shortages.
Ryu Heungseong, Director of Administrative Support, said, “This year, the labor shortage caused by the impact of COVID-19 is more serious than ever, and we are glad that this volunteer work could help ease the difficulties of farmers even a little.”
