Jinju-si Selected for the '2020 Hanbok Culture Activation Project Hanbok Culture Week' Contest
Creating Opportunities to Enjoy Hanbok Culture as Part of Everyday Life
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 16th that it has been selected for the '2020 Hanbok Culture Activation Project Hanbok Culture Week Contest,' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Hanbok Promotion Center of the Korea Craft & Design Foundation.
'Hanbok Culture Week' is a cultural festival centered on hanbok, offering various programs such as experiences, exhibitions, and education. It is held annually during the third week of October. The 'Hanbok Culture Week Project' has been promoted since 2018 to provide opportunities to enjoy traditional hanbok culture in everyday life and to contribute to the spread of traditional hanbok culture.
Especially this year, the contest was held last month targeting local governments that can promote continuous hanbok-related projects rather than one-time events, and the final selection was confirmed on the 15th.
The city was the only one in Gyeongnam Province to be selected for the contest project, and from October 15 to 17, during Hanbok Culture Week, various differentiated events using silk are planned, including a Jinju Fortress tour with a famous history lecturer, a silk hanbok fashion contest, and a hanbok photo contest.

A city official stated, "Through this project, we will further enhance our pride as a cultural and artistic city by linking various local cultural and tourism contents centered on hanbok," adding, "As Jinju City produces 80% of domestic silk hanbok and is one of the world's top five silk production areas, we hope Jinju will be reborn as a city where culture and local industry coexist, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy."
