Witnesses questioned by police will receive reimbursement for actual expenses such as meals and transportation going forward
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] From now on, when being investigated by the police as a witness, transportation and meal expenses within a reasonable range can be reimbursed.
According to the National Police Agency on the 16th, at the regular meeting of the Police Commission held the day before, the partial amendment to the enforcement regulation titled "Regulations on Payment of Expenses to Witnesses, etc." containing this content was reviewed and approved.
Previously, expenses were not paid if testimony was refused during the investigation process, and claims had to be made within two months, making the payment conditions relatively restrictive. However, witnesses, although investigated for criminal investigations, unlike suspects or witnesses, are not compelled to appear or testify.
Accordingly, the police have made the payment of expenses to witnesses mandatory and improved or deleted expressions that limited the payment of expenses. From now on, witnesses can claim actual expenses within a reasonable range for transportation, meals, accommodation, etc., used to attend police investigations, along with proper supporting documents such as receipts.
