'#Alive' Yoo Ah-in & Park Shin-hye "Message of Survival and Freedom Gains Strength Meeting the Times"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Actors Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye shared their unique thoughts on presenting a film amid the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus infection) situation.
On the afternoon of the 15th, the press and distribution preview of the film '#Alive' was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu. Actors Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye attended the event.
The recently revealed '#Alive' drew reactions likening it to the current COVID-19 situation. Yoo Ah-in said, "Many people must be going through very difficult times, and filmmakers are also struggling a lot. A unique scene unfolds that we have never seen before, giving a different feeling," adding, "Since it is a film about survival and isolation, mixed with desires for freedom and escape, it makes one think about the current situation."
Yoo Ah-in continued, "Coincidentally, I think the film resonates with many people," and said, "As the film was made and met audiences during these times, it has a fateful nature socially. It's interesting but also somewhat regrettable."
He then urged, "Now that everyone is going through tough times, I hope people can relieve their frustration in theaters and strongly feel the emotions the film conveys."
Yoo Ah-in added, "The feeling of watching it together in a theater is different. I don't know if it's the inherent power of the film or the energy created by the times. When the film's essence meets the era, it seems to create new value," and shared, "The words 'Alive' and 'We must survive' at the end deeply stuck in my heart."
Park Shin-hye said, "Although it is a genre film, I hope those who are struggling can feel a small hope like Jun-woo and Yoo-bin have."
'#Alive' is a survival thriller depicting people isolated alone in apartments after all data, Wi-Fi, texts, and calls are cut off amid uncontrollable chaos caused by people with unknown symptoms starting attacks. Yoo Ah-in plays survivor Jun-woo, who narrowly survives while avoiding mysterious entities. Park Shin-hye plays another survivor Yoo-bin, who confronts the unknown entities, showing a different side never seen before.
It was adapted from the original screenplay by Hollywood writer Matt Naylor. Directed by Jo Il-hyung, an AFI (American Film Institute) graduate who has worked in the United States. The film will be released on June 24.
