View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged Park Byeong-seok, the Speaker of the National Assembly, to proceed with the election of standing committee chairs at the plenary session scheduled for the afternoon of the 15th.
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, Floor Leader Kim said, "The standing committee chairs must be elected at today's plenary session," and added, "I ask the Speaker of the National Assembly to carry out the election of standing committee chairs at today's plenary session as promised at the last plenary session."
He said, "In order to process the third supplementary budget in June, each standing committee must begin reviewing the supplementary budget this week," and added, "The supplementary budget must be executed in early July to minimize the economic impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)."
He continued, "We can no longer tolerate the obstinacy of the United Future Party. The National Assembly must start working immediately," and said, "We also request the United Future Party to join the ranks for economic recovery."
Regarding the 20th anniversary of the June 15th Joint Declaration, Floor Leader Kim said, "There should be no cancellation of agreements between leaders due to changes in government between ruling and opposition parties," and added, "The Democratic Party will push for the National Assembly's ratification of the April 27 Panmunjom Declaration."
He continued, "The issue of sending leaflets to North Korea is a long-standing problem unresolved through successive governments," and said, "We will complete legislation banning the distribution of leaflets to North Korea in this National Assembly to put an end to this long-standing conflict. The government must firmly respond by mobilizing police forces based on current laws even before additional legislation is enacted."

Floor Leader Kim also urged the resumption of the Kaesong Industrial Complex and Mount Kumgang tourism. He said, "To develop inter-Korean relations, the Kaesong Industrial Complex and Mount Kumgang tourism must be resumed promptly," and added, "We urge the United States to recognize exceptions to North Korea sanctions so that the Kaesong Industrial Complex and Mount Kumgang tourism can be resumed as soon as possible."
