Simultaneous Discounts for Large and Small Businesses... Korea Donghaeng Sale Unfolds
Contactless-Focused Korean-Style Sale Event to Be Held from the 26th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] As part of the tasks to promote the economic policy direction for the second half of this year to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and stimulate consumption, the "Korea Together Sale" will be held from the 26th of this month to the 12th of next month.
According to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park Young-sun, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs) on the 14th, this event plans to create a nationwide consumption boom through large-scale discounts, online and offline promotions, and linked events such as dining and travel, involving various participants including traditional markets, small business owners, large retailers, and manufacturers.
In particular, reflecting the COVID-19 daily quarantine situation, it will be operated as a new form of consumption promotion event centered on non-face-to-face methods such as mobile shopping malls and live commerce. It plans to support revitalization of commercial districts through on-site events in six regions including Daegu and Seoul, which have been relatively severely affected by COVID-19, and will ensure thorough quarantine measures including preparation and promotion of quarantine guidelines, personal hygiene, and facility disinfection to operate the event safely.
First, non-face-to-face promotional events will support discount events mainly for products from small and medium enterprises and small business owners through various online platforms such as private shopping malls, the Gachi Sapsida platform, and live commerce. At 16 shopping malls including Gmarket, Coupang, and 11st, a 'Together Sale Online Special Exhibition' will offer discounts of up to 30-40%, and the Gachi Sapsida platform will conduct up to 87% price discounts and a special 'Time Sale' with one item per day (limited to 100 units). Live commerce using famous influencers will be held at open studios, promotional booths, and traditional markets within regional event sites, and an average 30% discount sale will be conducted through the Gachi Sapsida platform and private platforms.
On-site events will start in Busan from June 26 to June 28 and will be held sequentially in Daegu, Jeonbuk, Chungbuk, Gyeongnam, and Seoul until July 12. Each region will operate sales booths for small and medium enterprises and small business owners’ products and conduct various on-site promotional events, providing various attractions and entertainment in connection with local government events. Additionally, a special event, which is the highlight of the Together Sale, will be promoted in a non-face-to-face manner in early July in Seoul. The special event venue and the non-face-to-face studio will be connected via dual live broadcast to conduct live commerce, K-pop performances, and citizen participation ceremonies.
Promotional events such as prize giveaways, cultural performances, and shopping experiences will be held at 633 traditional markets and shopping districts nationwide, and an event will be conducted where 20% of the purchase amount on the day will be paid back in the form of Onnuri gift certificates up to a maximum of 40,000 KRW. A reward event for payment amounts to increase sales at over 550,000 Zero Pay affiliated stores will also be held.
Discount events by large retailers and manufacturers will also be held. Department stores and large marts plan to hold major brand season-off events and special discounts, as well as regional win-win discount fairs for food, agricultural and marine products, and daily necessities. The home appliance industry will offer additional discounts linked to the top-efficiency home appliance rebate program, which refunds 10% of the purchase cost up to 300,000 KRW when purchasing products with high energy consumption efficiency ratings, and the automobile industry will provide special discounts on major car models.
