Guri-si Rolls Up Sleeves to Improve Working Conditions for COVID-19 Quarantine Workers
[Asia Economy (Guri) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Guri City in Gyeonggi Province is taking steps to improve the working conditions of COVID-19 quarantine personnel by installing walk-through booths, adjusting operating hours, and providing rest areas.
Guri City first prepared for the prolonged COVID-19 situation at screening clinics and improved employees' working conditions by installing walk-through booths and allowing the use of a set of four personal protective equipment items, including a simple full-body gown instead of thick Level D protective suits.
Additionally, a pre-reservation system for screening clinics was introduced, and operating hours will be reduced or flexibly adjusted during the hot afternoon hours. Furthermore, air-conditioned caravans where staff can rest have been prepared.
Mayor Ahn Seung-nam of Guri said, "There have been unfortunate cases of personnel collapsing while wearing protective suits and conducting tests under the scorching midsummer sun, where sweat pours even when standing still. We believe such incidents must no longer occur, so Guri City has proactively pushed to improve the working environment for quarantine personnel."
