[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) opened the record exhibition site ‘Dongdaemun-gu Memory Journey’ homepage on the 11th.
Dongdaemun-gu Memory Journey is a digital archive project that reexamines major places in Dongdaemun-gu, which have been part of residents' daily lives, through records such as photos, videos, and writings.
Through the site, visitors can vividly encounter stories such as the Oscar Theater, which gave hope to people weary of poverty and despair in the late 1960s; Cheongnyangni Station, where people took the Pigeon train to go on MT trips; Gyeongdong Market, where parents stopped by to prepare herbal medicine for their children; Dapsimni Antique Alley, where newlyweds visited to buy antiques; the lifestyle of university students by era; and the Dongdaemun-gu Office building in the 1960s, all through records.
Dongdaemun-gu Memory Journey can also be viewed on the Dongdaemun-gu Office official website.
Along with this, the district is conducting the ‘1st Dongdaemun-gu Private Records Collection Event’ until the 17th. Anyone who possesses personal records related to Dongdaemun-gu (including old photos or videos, audiovisual materials, documents such as diaries and letters, and memorabilia or daily necessities) can apply.
Those wishing to apply can visit the Civil Affairs and Passport Division on the first floor of Dongdaemun-gu Office in person or apply by phone.
Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Through Dongdaemun-gu Memory Journey, people can look back on life and memories in Dongdaemun-gu through past records and see the dynamic development of Dongdaemun-gu through current records. We plan to continuously collect records and additionally release learning content on the site so that elementary, middle, and high school students can explore local culture and history. We will continue to strive to leave historically valuable records for future generations.”
