Seoul 'Seongsan Bridge North End' Performance Improvement Construction Completed... Fully Opened at 2 PM on the 12th
Performance Improvement from Grade 2 to Grade 1 through Full Replacement of Bridge Upper Slab
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The northern section of Seongsan Bridge, which underwent repair and reinforcement work due to aging, will be fully reopened from 2 p.m. on the 12th. The ramp entering Seongsan Bridge from Gangbyeonbuk-ro (Ilsan direction) will resume traffic from 2 p.m. on the 26th.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 11th that it has improved the performance of the northern connection bridge (212m) and two ramps (100m) of Seongsan Bridge by demolishing the deck and completely replacing the slab on the upper part of the bridge. The bridge, which was previously a Class 2 bridge (DB-18) allowing only vehicles with a total weight of up to 32.4 tons, has been upgraded to a Class 1 bridge (DB-24) that permits vehicles with a total weight of up to 43.2 tons.
Seongsan Bridge, connecting the Naebusunhwan Road (Mangwon-dong, Mapo-gu) and Seobu Ganseon Road (Yangpyeong-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu), handles more than 180,000 vehicles daily, making it the second busiest bridge over the Han River after Hannam Bridge, which sees over 210,000 vehicles daily.
The northern section of Seongsan Bridge will continue to undergo some auxiliary works and the removal of temporary bridges even after reopening. Additionally, the southern section performance improvement work is being carried out in phases to shorten the construction period and minimize inconvenience to citizens, considering the traffic volume.
The southern section performance improvement work, which began in January last year, involves repairing and reinforcing the connection bridge (317m), four ramps (650m), and a connection pedestrian bridge (45m), and is scheduled to be completed by December. The main bridge (1040m) construction started in the second half of 2020 and is expected to be completed by December 202_.
