Jeonbuk Environment Cheong Conducts Intensive Inspections of Pollution Emission Sites During Ozone Vulnerable Period
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Geon-ju] The Jeonbuk Regional Environmental Office will conduct air pollutant emission monitoring using advanced equipment such as mobile measurement vehicles and drones to reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the cause of ozone (O3), until August, the vulnerable period for ozone.
According to the Environmental Office on the 10th, the main inspection targets are major industrial complexes in the Jeonbuk area, businesses emitting large amounts of volatile organic compounds, and paint manufacturing and sales companies.
Ozone is a gas that can cause chronic respiratory disorders or be toxic to plants, and is generally produced by the photochemical reaction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds.
In particular, ozone mainly occurs in the summer afternoons when temperatures are high and sunlight is strong, and ozone advisories, which are issued when ozone concentrations are high, are mostly concentrated from May to August.
The number of ozone advisories issued in the Jeonbuk area last year totaled 32, and the number of days with ozone advisories is also showing an increasing trend due to the rise in heat waves caused by climate change.

An official from the Environmental Office said, “Considering the recent restrictions on face-to-face contact due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we plan to focus on non-face-to-face monitoring using mobile measurement vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles.”
