View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National Maritime University (President Park Sung-hyun) announced on the 9th that it awarded a commendation from the Mokpo Coast Guard and a special scholarship from the university to language exchange student Hwang Ban Biet (Vietnam, 22), who rescued a drowning person on the 8th.
Hwang Ban Biet, who is enrolled in the Korean language training program at the International Exchange Center, discovered a tourist, Mr. A, who had fallen into the water near the Mokpo Sinan Beach Hotel around 8 p.m. on the 31st of last month while working part-time. He jumped into the sea and, together with the Mokpo Coast Guard who responded to the report, safely rescued the tourist.
The Mokpo Coast Guard (Chief Jung Young-jin) awarded a commendation to Hwang Ban Biet for his assistance in the rescue, and Mokpo National Maritime University also recognized his contribution to enhancing the university’s reputation and, upon recommendation from the alumni association, presented him with a special scholarship.

Since entering the Korean language training program at Mokpo National Maritime University in October 2018 and achieving Level 4 in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK), Hwang Ban Biet has demonstrated a diligent attitude toward his studies. He expressed, “I am glad to have been able to do something meaningful while living in Korea,” and added, “I will study harder during the remaining period and strive to be someone who can help those in need in the future.”
