United Future Party: "Is submission the response to North Korea cutting off contact... We must respond with confidence"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Regarding North Korea's notification on the 9th at noon to cut off all communication lines, the United Future Party raised their voices, saying "The government must respond confidently."
United Future Party spokesperson Bae Jun-young criticized in a statement that day, "From North Korea's perspective, it is natural that they dislike leaflets informing North Korean residents about the problems of the hereditary dictatorship regime and the reality outside, but why does our government and ruling party, not North Korea, side with North Korea and uphold the words of Kim Yo-jong, the First Deputy Director of the Workers' Party?"
Spokesperson Bae said, "The fact that when Kim Yo-jong ordered to make a leaflet ban law, our side immediately said they would create such a law, and the outrageous remark that police and military forces should be mobilized to prevent such incidents from happening again, all came from our side," adding, "Moreover, a former president's son and ruling party lawmaker even submitted a bill requiring the Ministry of Unification's approval for leaflets sent to North Korea." This was a criticism of Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Hong-gul's proposal of the 'Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation Act Amendment' to restrict leaflet distribution to North Korea.

Spokesperson Bae pointed out, "It is North Korea that broke the Panmunjom Declaration agreed upon by the two Koreas' leaders, especially the promise not to engage in any hostile acts, and it is North Korea, not us, that nullified the inter-Korean military agreement through missile provocations and shootings," adding, "Our government's attitude, which consistently shows a submissive and servile stance by not criticizing but rather shielding the rogue state North Korea that acts with impudence, cannot be considered a normal response of a sovereign nation."
