KISA "Electronic Transaction Dispute Mediation Increased by 11% Compared to Last Year"
The Highest Number of Damages Occurred in Clothing and Footwear Items
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] The number of electronic transaction dispute mediation cases reported to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) last year increased by 11% compared to the previous year.
On the 9th, KISA announced this while publishing the '2020 Electronic Transaction Dispute Mediation Casebook' together with the Electronic Document and Electronic Transaction Dispute Mediation Committee.
According to the main contents of the casebook, the number of electronic transaction dispute consultations and mediation applications last year was 20,845, an 11% increase from the previous year (18,770 cases). Among them, many damages occurred in items closely related to daily life such as clothing and shoes (35.2%), computers and home appliances (21.3%), and miscellaneous goods (11.9%).
By transaction type, business-to-consumer (B2C) dispute mediation applications accounted for the largest share at 63.3% (1,080 cases) of the total dispute mediation applications, followed by consumer-to-consumer (C2C) dispute mediation applications at 31.4%.

KISA President Seok-hwan Kim said, "As non-face-to-face economic activities have been activated due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), electronic transactions have accelerated accordingly, and it is expected that new types of disputes and requests for damage relief will increase."
