Free Screening of 5·18 Film 'Nakhwajanhyang' on Gwangju University Website
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The film "Nakhwa Janghyang," which deals with the May events in Gwangju, will be screened through the Gwangju University website.
This is the first time a Korean film produced to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the May 18th Democratic Uprising has been screened on a university website.
Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) announced on the 8th that it will screen director Park Gibok's film "Nakhwa Janghyang (洛花殘香) - Even if the flowers fall, the fragrance remains" for free on its website until the 30th.
The film can be viewed by clicking the popup window located at the bottom right of the main page of the website.
Gwangju University, which was the first in the nation to build the "May 18 Gwangju People's Uprising Monument" on campus to mark the 10th anniversary of the May 18 Gwangju Democratic Movement, decided to screen the film on its website to reflect on the meaning of May 18 and share the pain.
Due to the impact of COVID-19, "Nakhwa Janghyang" was screened online last month on the websites of local governments nationwide, including Buk-gu in Gwangju and Gurye County Office.
The film "Nakhwa Janghyang" is directed by Park Gibok and tells the story of a female university student who came down from Seoul to participate in a musical audition held in Gwangju in May 1980 and is chased by martial law troops.
This film is director Park's second work following "March for You," which was released in 2018 to commemorate the 39th anniversary of May 18, and he is preparing a third film centered on the story of Gwangju.
