Gangdong-gu 'COVID-19 Youth Small Business Lunchbox Support Project' Participants Warmly Conclude with Voluntary Donations... 4,320 Lunchboxes Provided to 180 People Over 8 Weeks and Essential Goods Donated from Part of the Profits
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] "Ding dong, lunchbox delivery has arrived!"
On the 10th, the last day of the 'Gangdong-gu Youth Small Business Lunchbox Support Project,' young people deliver special gifts along with the final lunchboxes to local residents.
The 'Youth Small Business Lunchbox Support Project' is a program conducted by Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) to alleviate the economic difficulties of young small business owners and fill welfare gaps by delivering lunchboxes to vulnerable groups during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. The project has been running for eight weeks since April.
In the 'Lunchbox Support Project,' nine youth-run food service businesses and eight youth delivery workers participated. The lunchboxes made by youth-operated stores were delivered by youth delivery workers to vulnerable groups who have difficulty securing meals.
A total of 4,320 lunchboxes were delivered three times a week to 180 vulnerable individuals in the district, including the elderly, disabled, and children. The costs associated (production cost 8,000 KRW, delivery fee 4,000 KRW) were also paid to the youth.
At the conclusion of the eight-week project, participating youth decided to donate a portion of their earnings. The first donation started with ramen donated by Jeon Seong-jae, CEO of Charle Michel and a youth delivery worker residing at Amsa Dojeonsuk, a youth startup housing in Gangdong-gu.
The earnings collected by the youth were agreed to be used on the last day of delivery to provide vulnerable groups with lunchboxes along with daily necessities worth about 1 million KRW.
Park Hoon-young, a youth representative, said, "Although I initially participated in this project as a beneficiary, we wanted to prepare a meaningful sharing in the community with the spirit of overcoming COVID-19 together as members of the local community. It is even more meaningful that 15 people, including youth entrepreneurs in the region, joined the donation."
Gangdong-gu plans to carry out the 'Neighbor Youth Local Contribution Project,' where youth entrepreneurs realize creative talent sharing through co-working. For more information about the project, please contact the Social Economy Division of Gangdong-gu Office.
