Yangcheon-gu Parents and Facility Corporation Take on Disinfection... Eliminating Blind Spots!
‘Yangcheon-gu Facility Management Corporation Y-Quarantine Team’, ‘Parents’, and ‘Village Love Quarantine Team’ Join Public and Private Efforts to Overcome COVID-19... From Quarantine to Inspection at Schools and Academies Following Strengthened Government Quarantine Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “When I think of the chair my child will sit on, the desk they will study at, and the cafeteria where they will eat, I put more effort into wiping with the rag. When I think of the playground where they will run and play with friends, I carefully prepare the eco-friendly disinfection hose."
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced that to ensure the safety of students and residents, the Y-Disinfection Team of the Facilities Management Corporation, parents, and other public-private partners have jointly strengthened existing disinfection activities as a preemptive measure to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
■ Enhanced School Disinfection through Cooperation between ‘Parents’ and ‘Yangcheon Facilities Management Corporation Y-Disinfection Team’
Yangcheon-gu, in collaboration with parents, launched the 'Valuable School Disinfection Together' project, nicknamed the ‘Gabang Project,’ on the 8th of last month. The ‘Gabang Volunteer Group’ composed of parents and the Village Love Disinfection Team completed the first round of disinfection at 20 schools in the district, and began the second round on the 5th.
Since the 2nd, the Y-Disinfection Team of Yangcheon Facilities Management Corporation has also joined, adding more personnel to the existing Yangcheon Parents’ Association, parents, and Village Love Disinfection Team to conduct even more thorough school disinfection.
■ Public-Private Cooperation for ‘Disinfection’ and ‘Inspection’ at ‘Academies’
The district applies nationally strengthened disinfection measures to local academies and private tutoring centers, with staff from various departments visiting a total of 2,072 academies and tutoring centers for intensive inspections.
Additionally, the Y-Disinfection Team of Yangcheon Facilities Management Corporation joins in to conduct disinfection activities at 98 academies and tutoring centers that applied after a demand survey.
From the 2nd to the 14th, a two-week inspection period for academies and tutoring centers has been designated. Employees from each department of Yangcheon-gu Office form inspection teams of two people and visit each site at least once during this period to recommend suspension of operations and, if operation is unavoidable, guide strict compliance with infectious disease prevention rules.
Furthermore, starting from the 8th, the Y-Disinfection Team of Yangcheon Facilities Management Corporation will conduct disinfection in teams of three. All necessary disinfection equipment and supplies such as protective suits, masks, and gloves will be supported by Yangcheon-gu.
■ Expanded Support with ‘School Safety Helpers’ to Cover Blind Spots!
Safety helpers assigned to each school take on roles such as measuring students’ temperatures during arrival times or class hours when it is especially difficult to maintain distancing due to crowding, and guiding students to eat safely with distancing during meal times in the school cafeteria.
At the end of May, the district supported 1.2 million KRW for hiring ‘Safety Helpers’ at 30 elementary schools in the area. Additionally, at 18 middle and high schools in the district, the Y-Disinfection Team of Yangcheon Facilities Management Corporation provides manpower support, working alongside the safety helpers assigned to schools to faithfully perform the role of a second line of safety helpers by measuring students’ temperatures and more.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “Since the transition to a daily quarantine system, sporadic confirmed cases have occurred again, which was concerning. However, everyone, including related organizations and parents, has stepped up as if it were their own responsibility for the safety of our community, which gives us greater strength to overcome the COVID-19 situation. We will continue to work hard to strictly comply with quarantine rules through the united efforts of both public and private sectors.”
