Gangbuk-gu, Construction Site Safety Management via SNS
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) has been managing construction site safety using social networking services (SNS) since last month. The licensing officer requires construction personnel to join SNS as a condition for new construction and demolition approvals, enabling real-time communication. This system was established to enable immediate response when emergencies such as natural disasters or safety accidents occur at construction sites.
Contractors, supervisors, and responsible public officials quickly share construction status, safety inspection results, and complaints, facilitating two-way communication. The licensing department can efficiently manage each construction phase through the shared site information. Contractors and supervisors also benefit from promptly accessing information related to natural disasters like typhoons and rapidly changing laws and regulations. This transforms private construction sites, which are often vulnerable to oversight, into a key component of the disaster response system.
The district focuses this effective management on safety-vulnerable construction sites. Sites with relatively higher accident risks, such as excavation sites and buildings of five floors or more, totaling 44 locations, are required to join. Based on the analysis of service operation results, the plan is to expand this system to large-scale construction sites including redevelopment and reconstruction projects.
Park Kyum-soo, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, “Communication through social networking services will enhance the sense of responsibility among construction personnel and contribute to preventing safety accidents.” He added, “We will implement an open construction administration service based on residents’ trust and participation.”
