Global Semiconductor Market Size Expected to Decrease by 6% in Q2
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The global semiconductor market size in the second quarter is expected to decline compared to the previous quarter due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
On the 7th, market research firm IC Insights announced that the global semiconductor market size this year is expected to decrease by about 6% compared to the previous quarter.
The semiconductor market showed favorable performance until the first quarter, but from the second quarter, it is analyzed that the COVID-19 virus will have some impact on the semiconductor market as well.
It is explained that the system semiconductor market will be more affected than the memory semiconductor market.
Among the 21 semiconductor companies that have released second-quarter earnings guidance so far, 14 expect second-quarter sales to decline compared to the previous quarter.
By company, Texas Instruments (TI) forecasted a 13% decrease in sales, Infineon -13%, Intel -7%, Qualcomm -5%, and TSMC -1%, among others.
Six companies predicted an increase in second-quarter sales, with Taiwan's MediaTek forecasting a 6% growth. MediaTek is expected to benefit from the expansion of 5G semiconductor sales for smartphones.
