Korea Yakult Targets Young Generation with Original Character ‘Yakult D20’
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Korea Yakult announced on the 5th that it will introduce its own character ‘Yakult D20’.
‘D20’ is a character personifying probiotic lactic acid bacteria. The body is shaped like a Yakult bottle, with a round lactic acid bacteria shape as its face. Its robot-like appearance symbolizes the robustness of the bacteria that survive through the intestines. The character name ‘D20’ is an abbreviation of DAY20, meaning that one bottle of Yakult undergoes a strict 20-day manufacturing process.
Korea Yakult plans to actively utilize the 'D20' character in product package designs and social network service (SNS) operations starting this month. In fact, it was first applied to the front of the package of the ‘Frozen Super100’ product released on the 1st.
New goods using the character will also be introduced. At the end of June, 2,000 new regular service customers will be given a ‘Yakult Cradle’. The ‘Yakult Cradle’ is a product that helps conveniently hold Yakult like a cup holder for easy drinking. It was planned and produced reflecting customer feedback that young children often drop Yakult because they cannot hold it with one hand. Depending on its use, it can also be used as a pencil holder or piggy bank. Additional goods such as ballpoint pens and tubes are also planned for production in the future.

Kwon Min-jung, head of Korea Yakult’s Design Team 2, said, “We hope that the new character will allow younger generations, including children, to experience the brand more familiarly,” and added, “We plan to continuously work on various events and products using the character to maintain customers’ interest.”
