MBC: "No Evidence Found to Verify Reporter’s Statement on Joining 'Baksa Bang'"
MBC Truth Investigation Committee: "Difficult to Trust Statements Claiming Membership Was for Reporting Purposes"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] MBC has concluded that it is difficult to trust the statement of its reporter who claims to have joined the Telegram 'Baksa Bang' as a paid member for reporting purposes.
On the 4th, MBC announced that after forming a fact-finding committee related to the suspicion of attempted sexual exploitation video transactions, it was unable to confirm any evidence proving reporter A's statement that he joined for reporting purposes.
Since April 28, MBC conducted interviews with A, written investigations, testimonies from related parties, forensic examination of the company-issued laptop, and verification of Google Timeline for key dates through the fact-finding committee, which included two external experts. However, A stated that he lost the corporate mobile phone used to join Baksa Bang, so that part could not be investigated.
MBC stated that after three full meetings, it confirmed that ▲ A signed a membership contract to send the subscription fee for joining Baksa Bang ▲ A joined and was active in Baksa Bang ▲ A's statement that he joined Baksa Bang for reporting purposes is difficult to trust.
MBC said, "Based on this investigation report, we will hold a personnel committee for A in the future to take disciplinary actions or other measures as stipulated in company regulations. We take this incident seriously and will make every effort to prevent unethical personal misconduct by our employees from recurring. We promise to do our best to fulfill the responsibilities of a public broadcaster."
