[Asia Economy Reporters Wondara and Jeon Jinyoung] Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 5th that the plenary session will definitely be held.
On the morning of the 4th, at the policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly, Floor Leader Kim said, "The Democratic Party will definitely hold the plenary session tomorrow, even if the sky splits in two."
He continued, "No obstacle will be able to stop progress toward the new National Assembly," emphasizing, "The Democratic Party will take tomorrow's plenary session as the first step toward a working National Assembly."
Regarding the 3rd supplementary budget bill submitted to the National Assembly that day, Floor Leader Kim said, "The speed and timing, which are the lifeblood of the supplementary budget, are more important than ever," adding, "The economy must rebound to quickly get out of the tunnel. Therefore, the 3rd supplementary budget for people's livelihood must be passed around June."
He also said, "If the 3rd supplementary budget is executed promptly, our economy can expect a dramatic rebound to a growth rate in the 3% range next year," urging, "I ask for the opposition party's cooperation so that the National Assembly can open its doors on the legally designated date and immediately start reviewing the 3rd supplementary budget."
Yoon Kwan-seok, the senior deputy chairman of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee, said, "Regarding the formation of the 3rd supplementary budget, some have expressed concerns about national debt," but added, "However, I want to clearly state again that our economy has the quantitative and qualitative foundation to fully withstand active fiscal policy. The national debt ratio for this supplementary budget is 43.5%."
